There are many ways that you might choose to make your way through the unit. The diagram and suggested sessions (below) will help to plan your learning through the Work within a relevant legal and ethical framework unit. The sessions outlined below are a suggestion only - you may have another way that you prefer to study.
Session 1 - Legislation (Blue tiles)

Session 2 - Policies and procedures (pink tiles)
This includes:
- Reviewing the service philosophy
- How to develop policies
- How to review policies
- Confidentiality and privacy policies
- Position description and role responsibilities for a Certificate lll Early Childhood Educator
- How to seek clarification when you are unclear of your work role requirements
A few points to think about for your blog:
Why are policies and procedure so valuable in early education and care services?
How can you engage other stakeholders (e.g. staff, children, parents, communities) in reviewing policies?
What would you do as a Certificate lll educator if you were unsure of your role?
Session 3 - Work ethically (Purple tiles)
This includes:
- ECA Code of ethics
- Ethical issues and ethical dilemmas in the workplace
- Ethical behaviour within the workplace
- How to make ethics part of everyday practice
A few points to think about for your blog:
What does ethical means to you? What steps would you take towards working ethically within an education and care service?
What would you do if you witnessed unethical behaviour of a team member?
Session 3 - Client rights (Orange tiles)
This includes:
- Protecting the rights of clients
- Indicators of signs of abuse
- New Working with Children Check and how to apply for this
- How you manage complaints
- How to make ethics part of everyday practice
